Gold Coast Pride Festival has confirmed their rescheduled program of events for the Coast’s own Pride Month this June.

The burgeoning festival began on Queensland’s Gold Coast last year. It was to return in March, but the devastated organisers sadly had to cancel due to bad weather.

Now they’ve confirmed a new, even bigger lineup of events and activities coinciding with international Pride Month this June.

The loud and proud Pride March is back on the beach at Surfers Paradise on Saturday, June 4. Marchers are encouraged to wear bright colours and bring rainbow flags.

The parade will travel along Narrowneck Beach, up to the lifeguard tower, across Macintosh Bridge and into Macintosh Island Park.

At the park, the Gold Coast Pride Fair Day event is on from 10am to 4pm. Entry is free, with market stalls, great food and music and live entertainment all day.

Among them is a lineup of fierce drag divas who are competing in the Miss Gold Coast Pride Drag Queen Pageant for 2022.

Vince Siciliani and Danni Zuvela are the directors of the Gold Coast Pride Festival. They told QNews.com.au after the disappointment of having to postpone, they’re thrilled to confirm the even bigger plans for June.

“We’re looking forward to our new date of Saturday June 4 in the same great location at Main Beach,” Vince said.

“Everyone is going to love having a big gay day out in the park with our rainbow family.”

Elsewhere, Pizzey Park Tennis Club is hosting the festival’s Pride Tennis Fun Day on June 12 in Miami.

There’s also a Rainbow Open Mic queer poetry event at Robina Library on June 15. Youth literary event Reading the Rainbow: Teddy Bears’ Picnic is at HOTA on June 18.

“We’re very proud of the other events in this year’s Pride Month program,” Vince Siciliani said.

“It’s so important for us to participate in International Pride Month with our own home-grown program.”

Gold Coast Pride Festival Co-director Danni Zuvela said the festival’s Pride March along the beach is a particular highlight. It’s believed to be the first of its kind in Australia.

“After the incredible turnout last year, we’re excited to see the interest building for an even bigger celebration of Gold Coast queer culture on the beach this year,” she said.

“We feel like [the festival is] the perfect platform to show the world how diverse and vibrant Gold Coast LGBTIQA+ culture is.”

Local group Gold Coast Rainbow Communities runs the Pride Festival on the Coast.

The not-for-profit LGBTIQ+ group launched in 2020. As well as the festival, the group organise various community events across the Coast.
