September is Pride Month in Brisbane, and there are plenty of ways to get involved, from Fair Day to all the celebrations.
Brisbane Pride is Queensland’s largest annual LGBTQIA+ festival, hosting a month-long calendar of events for the LGBTQIA+ community and allies to be a part of.
“Each year, Brisbane Pride grows in size and impact.” Brisbane Pride President James McCarthy said.
“The festival isn’t just a month of events. It’s the heartbeat of our community, where new connections are forged, vital conversations happen, and funds raised directly empower our local LGBTIQA+ organisations.”
This year marks the 35th anniversary of the Brisbane Pride Festival. And there are plenty of ways for you to be a part of it.

Are you ready for Pride March?
Every year, thousands flock to the city’s annual Pride March and Fair Day on Saturday, September 20th.
Brisbane Pride has confirmed that the morning’s Rally is back at Queens Gardens Park in the CBD from 9 am.
Marchers will gather in the park before travelling over Victoria Bridge, led by Dykes on Bikes.
They will then march across the Brisbane River to Musgrave Park for Fair Day.
Following the same route as the city’s first Pride March on June 30, 1990.
“That march was more than symbolic,” said McCarthy.
“It was a turning point. A year earlier, it had been illegal to hold a Pride March in Queensland.
“It took place in the shadow of stigma and violence, and yet people showed up loud, proud, political and unapologetic.
“They carved the path that we now walk. Thirty-five years on, we continue that work. We do it with pride and we do it with purpose.”
Groups who would like to take part in this year’s Pride March can register their participation online here.

Register an event, or why not volunteer?

It could be a debut show, community catch-up, exhibition, dance party or sporting event.
When it comes to Pride Month, we need a range of diverse, inclusive and inspiring events to capture the hearts and minds of our communities.
So why not put one on? It’s only intimidating until you get started.
