Brisbane queer bar Come to Daddy is hosting a Daddy Pageant

Come to Daddy owner Billerwell Daye

Brisbane’s newest LGBTQIA+ pub Come to Daddy will host its first Daddy Pageant in a few weeks.

Owner Billerwell Daye (above) opened Come to Daddy last May on Montague Road in Brisbane’s West End, as an inclusive space for the LGBTQIA+ community, featuring social events, live music, drag nights and more.

In three weeks, the venue on Brisbane’s southside is hosting its first ever Daddy Pageant.

The Daddy Pageant will start with a Registration Night on Friday, January 24. That night, all of the Daddies will introduce themselves to punters.

Across the subsequent Friday nights, the Daddies will compete in various themed heats. Punters at the pub will be able to vote on which one of them is Brisbane’s Best Daddy after each of the rounds of the competition.

“We’re searching for the best daddies in Brisbane. All ideas and representations of ‘Daddy’ are welcome to enter,” Billerwell explained.

Come to Daddy opened in West End eight months ago

At the end of 2024, Billerwell Daye celebrated the first eight months of his pub Come to Daddy.

He told us last year that choosing a location took him a long time, but he ultimately picked the south side.

“We were predominantly looking around West End, as there’s a bit of a hole on this side of the river,” he said.

“This just had the right vibe and there wasn’t really much over this side catering for the community.

“Being a gay man as well I wanted to feel comfortable and have somewhere for my friends to go.

“I had a lot of friends that were kind of discussing ‘Oh, I wish we had something else in Brisbane.’”
