Stuck in Brisbane during Mardi Gras? Let comedians Magda Szubanski and Tom Ballard be your guide to the most spectacular floats, celebrities and costumes in this year’s parade.
Magda and Tom will also be joined at the 38th Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras by SBS reporter Patrick Abboud and TV personality Faustina Agolley, who’ll be attending her very first Mardi Gras.
“I’m back to co-host the SBS broadcast because I had such a blast last year and I feel it is a great way to lend my support to this vibrant and historically important event in Australia’s – and the world’s – LGBTQI calendar,” Magda said.
“It’s a wonderful, inclusive and creative celebration of this nation’s sexual and cultural diversity. Values we can all be proud of. Gay, straight, and everything in between; all are welcome.”
This year’s theme is “momentum,” signifying standing up and being counted to turn passion into purpose and becoming unstoppable.
SBS’ coverage will also include stories from the parade participants explaining the meanings behind the floats and covering issues affecting the LGBTI community.
Viewers will be able to get their tweets displayed on screen throughout the broadcast by using the hashtag #sydneymardigras.
SBS will screen the parade at 8.30pm on Sunday 6 March and stream it live online for those overseas at sbs.com.au/mardigras.
