In Brisbane for Mardi Gras? Comedians Joel Creasey and Em Rusciano are ready to be your guide to the fabulous floats, celebrities and costumes in this year’s parade.
Joel and Em will join Faustina Agolley and The Feed’s Patrick Abboud in hosting SBS’ telecast of the parade on Sunday, March 5 at 8.30pm.
The telecast will also feature interviews with celebrity guests plus stories from some of the parade participants – exploring the messages behind the floats, covering issues of sexuality, equality and discrimination affecting the LGBTI community.
A live stream of the parade will again be available to Australian and international viewers on Saturday 4 March from 7pm on SBS On Demand.
Viewer tweets will be displayed on screen throughout the television broadcast, using the official event hashtag #sydneymardigras.
Each year the parade brings a three-week long calendar of Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras events to a close, but before that SBS’ main channel, SBS Viceland and NITV will get into the Mardi Gras spirit with a lineup of queer-themed movies and programs.
On March 1, SBS On Demand will bring Australian audiences the highly anticipated US drama, “When We Rise”, written and created by screenwriter Dustin Lance Black.
Aussies Guy Pearce, Rachel Griffins join Mary-Louise Parker and Whoopi Goldberg in the miniseries which chronicles the real-life struggles and triumphs of a group of queer men and women who helped pioneer one of the last legs of the US civil rights movement. “When We Rise” will then be screened on SBS on March 11.
