Xena and Gabrielle’s relationship is the stuff of lesbian legend, but it was never addressed on the cult 90s TV show… until now.
Javier Grillo-Marxuach is the writer in charge of delivering the first episode of the proposed “Xena: Warrior Princess” reboot series to American television network NBC and he’s a well-known LGBTI advocate.
He said in a Q&A on social networking site Tumblr that his take on the two lesbian icons’ relationship would “express my view of the world – which is only further informed by what is happening right now – and is not too difficult to know what that is if you do some digging.”
“There is no reason to bring back Xena if it is not there for the purpose of fully exploring a relationship that could only be shown subtextually in first-run syndication in the 1990s,” he said.
Casting and a release date for the reboot series is yet to be confirmed.
