Two witnesses alleged in court that Michael Bradley Small, accused with Scott Richard Gordon of killing Andy Stephens, confessed to the murder. The DJ and radio host was found dead in his Taringa home in September 2020.

Known as Andy C, the DJ worked in Fortitude Valley clubs for many years. Friends recalled him at his funeral as a ‘true character of the Brisbane DJ scene’. Police located his body in his Taringa home on September 3, 2020. They allege the murder happened a few days earlier on August 30.

The court heard that Small made confessions to his brother and a fellow sex worker.

Angus Small told the court that his brother confessed to him after a drinking session.

“He broke down into hysterics because he was very drunk and said ‘I did it’ over and over again.”

Angus Small said his brother spoke about the incident earlier in the day. However, after drinking, he then confessed.

Angus Small said his brother did not actually use the word ‘murder’ as he previously said in his police statement.

“It was the interpretation but he didn’t actually use the exact words ‘I murdered Andy Stephens’.”

A fellow sex worker also testified that Michael Small confessed to killing Andy Stephens. He said he and Michael Small were on a job together when Small told him he and Scott Gordon killed Mr Stephens.

Small allegedly said that he and Gordon stabbed the victim with a syringe before choking him.

The hearing will continue tomorrow.
