Reality TV show First Dates has matched up its first same-sex couple – celebrity psychic Harry T and remedial massage therapist Iain Gardiner.
Harry, 26, said it was a promising sign about “where we’re heading as a nation”.
“I remember going into the experience thinking this could be so much bigger than just me. It could be real platform for other people out there who don’t have the opportunity to witness same-sex love on TV,” he said.
“I’ve never seen it. I’m so glad I did this because it really creates another voice for people out there who are unheard or unseen.
“I think this is for the whole LGBTI community.”
While Harry openly talks about his sexuality and beliefs, Iain, 49, admitted that he hid being gay from his family and friends until later in life.
In an interview with New Idea, he said he was married for 15 years before coming out as gay as he attempted to cover-up his true feelings.
“Back when I was born, it was a real thing of shame to be gay,” he said.
First Dates pairs hopeful couples together on blind dates before they reveal whether they want to see each other again.
Of course, because of his psychic abilities, Harry knew the outcome before even meeting Iain for a dinner date.
We don’t want to give too much away, but let us just say that there is a fair age differential and that Harry’s spiritual instincts make it difficult for him to hold down a relationship.
