This year’s Sunshine Coast Pride Festival is shaping up to be the biggest and best pride party the Coast has ever seen.
The 2016 Festival will be held from Friday February 26 until Sunday February 28 with activities planned around the Coast for the whole weekend designed to unite the Coast’s LGBTIQ community, their family and friends, and visitors to show off all that the Sunny Coast has to offer.
The main Pride Fair Day will again be held at the Eumundi Markets on Saturday February 27. That day the inaugural Pride Paws Parade will showcase the best-dressed pooches from across the entire Sunshine Coast community.
Other activities this year include:
Pride Party Night – Friday 26th 8pm-12am at Noosa Reef’s SODA Club featuring DJs and Drag shows.
Pride Fair Day and Paws Parade – Saturday February 27 from 10am onward at Eumundi Markets. Free entry.
Show Night – Saturday 27th from 8pm at Waterfront Hotel featuring Ms Melony Brests and her friends.
Pride Play Day – Sunday 28th featuring Mt Coolum Hike, Brisbane Hustlers rugby match, and boat races.
The theme of this year’s festival is “Out ‘N’ Equal” to highlight the current state of affairs in Australia with regard to marriage equality.
“Our theme this year is about encouraging all community members to be proud and confident, and remember there is no difference between us all – except regarding whom we may love – and that’s something to stand proud of and worth fighting for in this vital time leading up to change,” said organiser Marjorie Blowers.
“Our Festival last year was our biggest ever with over 2,000 people coming along to our Pride Fair Day at Eumundi Markets. For 2016 we have even more great entertainers secured with an eclectic line-up of artists ranging from folk to dance musicians, intense energy DJs, dancers and Drag Queens.”
