West Oz Leather hosts Perth's first leather weekend

Perth’s kink and fetish community are coming together as West Oz Leather celebrates its first birthday with a weekend of social gatherings and spicy shenanigans.

“It’s all a bit of a dream,” West Oz Leather committee member Shane Early told QNews, “We blinked, and suddenly we are a year old. It’s wonderful.”

West Oz Leather started last year as a way to rebuild on the original kink group that catered to leather men in Perth, updating the approach to meet the community’s needs.

“We have the bears and the pups, and they both do really wonderful things here in our community,” Early said, “But everyone was asking for our own leather community. Something a bit different from either of them. So like creating something that’s just for us, building a legacy, that space in the community for you know all the freaky little queerdos and leather gays.”

A weekend to socialise and party

Perth has plenty of kinksters, but not much of a scene. The Huntley Social parties are a great place to “chuck on a leather harness or a vest and dance a dance and be around some other leather guys,” Early said, “But for the most part, we just didn’t really have the space.”

So the team behind West Oz Leather created social catch-ups that had a strong turnout every month, with community support continuing to grow.

An all-inclusive group for people who love leather, latex, and anything kink and fetish, their motto is simple: wear what you love and love what you wear. This weekend, they host a series of events to celebrate their first anniversary.

Friday night is a late-night social soiree at Moana Hall. Dress up in your kinky finest for food, tunes by DJs Tom of Midland and Hello Sailor and kinky performances.

“It’s a pretty chill group,” Early says, “We’re gonna hang out and have a few drinks. We’ve even got a big grazing table. One of our regular members’ mothers (Stuart)w is making sausage rolls. It’s gonna be great. Then Saturday is when we’re going to start dancing.”

HUNTLEY SOCIAL kicks things into gear on Saturday with PLEASURE PARK, the perfect balance of hedonism, joy and pleasure, whilst also exploring strength, beauty, and confidence.

The male-only event is hosted at Old Habits Neighbourhood Bar, and Early says, “the music’s going to be fantastic.”

“Plus, the owner of Perth Steamworks, our local sauna, has a bus coming by to collect us all at about 1 am. and drive us to the bathhouse after for the kick-ons.”

What more could you ask for? A recovery, I hear you say?

“We’ll all be hurting Sunday morning,” Early laughed, “But for those who are still with us, that we have not lost to the night, they’ll be able to gather at Frisk for a little recovery drink and to talk about the fun that we had.”

The chilled, free, casual event is a chance to unwind and recover with friends.

“No one needs to wear gear,” Early said, “This is where you can meet outside of your hide or rubber, our pup hoods. For newbies, Sunday is the way to do it. We’ll all just be a little dusty.”
