‘We get a little crazy’: Are you ready for the final season of Yellowjackets?

The Yellowjackets are coming home. And judging by the first look at the final season, they are bringing the wilderness with them.

Entertainment Weekly has unveiled first-look images and insights of what to expect from Yellowjackets Season 4, which premieres in November 20.

After three seasons of survival, secrets, rituals and murder, the teenage survivors are finally being rescued and returned to New Jersey.

But getting home is only the beginning.

Welcome back to civilisation

The final season will explore what happens when the girls have to reintegrate into a world they barely recognise anymore.

Hot showers and family homes might sound like a dream after 19 months in the wilderness.

But the culture shock of suddenly having food readily available in the supermarket and parents asking probing questions creates a very different kind of problem.

As co-creator Bart Nickerson told Entertainment Weekly, “I don’t think anyone’s re-integration goes great.”

The girls also have to agree on exactly what they are going to tell everyone about what happened.

According to co-creator Ashley Lyle, the group essentially decides to “plead the fifth” and stick to a deliberately narrow version of their story.

The question is whether everyone can keep that story straight.

The adults are not exactly thriving either

The adult Yellowjackets are obviously still dealing with the consequences of everything that happened in the wilderness too.

Melissa’s return has Shauna reconnecting with some of her darker instincts. That is enough for Misty and Taissa to decide their former Antler Queen might need to be dealt with, if you know what we mean.

Lyle tells Entertainment Weekly that Melissa was “the final piece of the puzzle” for Shauna, with the pair bringing out the worst in each other and “now that they’re all in each other’s sphere, it really gets turned all the way up to 11.”

The final season will also give each character more room to tell their own story, as each episode will focus on a particular character’s journey.

Buckle up, Yellowjackets fans

The creators originally planned for five seasons; however felt it would drag the story out too much.

Ultimately, they decided that four seasons was the better way to finish the story and would give them the chance to go out with a bang.

“There’s such a freedom that comes with this being the end,” Lyle told Entertainment Weekly. “You get to just go for it.”

She promises the final season takes “really big swings”, adding: “Buckle up is, I guess, the only thing I can say because we get a little crazy.”

How much crazier could it get! I guess we’re about to find out.
