So begins the opening of this heartwarming and challenging story told by filmmaker Eisha Marjara.

Venus is a refreshing take on queer and trans stories often told through a very white focussed narrative in Hollywood.

Sid is part of a very traditional South Asian family.

In the midst of trying to understand themself Sid is being pressured to provide the family with grandchildren, little does Sid know that problem is about to be solved.

In a touching and empowering moment Sid comes out to their family as a transgender woman but it’s not long before that story takes an interesting twist.

Arriving on the doorstep of Sid’s family home is fourteen year old Ralph, Sid’s biological son who Sid had no knowledge of.

So begins a complicated narrative that is handled with beauty, care, grace and a side of humour.

Sid and Ralph must understand their newfound relationship in amongst the rest of their lives.

While Ralph and Sid connect, Ralph still hasn’t told his mother of his new discovery.

Meanwhile, Sid must navigate their relationship with boyfriend Daniel who did not expect to be a step-parent anytime soon.

And of course, Sid’s parents must now accept their new daughter and grandson.

Gender, generations and cultures collide in this carefully woven and uplifting story that is a must-see for all.
