The first trailer for the upcoming Sir Elton John biopic Rocketman has been unveiled.
The film, which the teaser trailer says is “based on a true fantasy”, will explore the singer’s early days at Royal Academy of Music in London and his subsequent rise to pop stardom.
Actor Taron Egerton, best known for his role in the Kingsman movies, stars as the music icon and does his own singing in the film.
The one-minute teaser shows off many of Elton’s colorful, flamboyant costumes recreated for the film, as well as Egerton performing the title track “Rocketman” as the singer.
The film, set for release next May, is directed by Dexter Fletcher, who recently took over from Bryan Singer to finish Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, due for release on November 1.
John has just started his final world tour of the US and is expected to bring the show to Australia late next year.
“It’s time to come off the road so I fully embrace the next chapter of my life,” he said in January.
“Performing live fuels me and I’m ecstatic and humbled to continue to play to audiences across the globe.
“I plan to bring the passion and creativity that has entertained my fans for decades to my final tour.
“After the tour finishes, I’m very much looking forward to coming off the road so I can dedicate more time to raising my children.”
Last year, Elton toured Australia but skipped capital cities in favour of regional Queensland shows in Mackay and Cairns, as well as Woollongong and Hobart.
