Courtney Act has made history on last night’s episode of Dancing With The Stars by taking to the dancefloor as her male self.
The Australian drag star and dance partner Joshua Keefe have topped the leaderboard repeatedly since the show began in late February.
But on Monday night’s episode, Courtney danced as her male self, Shane Janek, and the routine is believed to be the first time in Dancing With The Stars history that two dance partners have performed on the show while presenting as male.
Courtney earlier teased that she wanted to perform both in and out of drag on the Channel 10 show.
“I would want to be Courtney and dance with a male partner,” she said.
“And then halfway through the series I’d come out as Shane and there would finally be same-sex dancing on the show.
“I’ve seen same-sex ballroom dancing and it’s just as fabulous.”
At the start of the series, Courtney selected indigenous suicide prevention charity Black Rainbow as the recipient of her $50,000 in prize money if she wins the series.
Black Rainbow provides a nationwide and online support network for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who identify as LGBTIQ, sistergirl or brotherboy.
“Minority identities intersect and I think the way we can get ahead is by reaching across the threshold and using our own privileges to support each other,” Courtney explained.
