WATCH: 13-Year-Old And 78-Year-Old’s Moving Chat About Growing Up Gay

A 78-year-old gay man and a 13-year-old gay boy have sat down together and talked about growing up as gay males, decades apart.

In the video, produced by YouTubers duo Trent & Luke in collaboration with London Pride, the two Brits compare their experiences coming out in two very different times.

13-year-old Louis talks about the overwhelming support he got from his peers and family when he came out as gay.

“I think you’re so lucky the world has changed and you can just be yourself,” Percy tells him.

This year’s London Pride is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the decriminalisation of homosexuality, and Percy tells Louis what it was like growing up in an era when being gay was illegal.

The teen is horrified to learn that same-sex couples feared police raiding their homes.

“It amazes me how they could even just say for loving someone, ‘You’re being arrested,’” the teenager says. “That completely shocks me.”

Percy also offers Louis some advice, telling him: “Stand up for being gay and for actually trying to make people understand that the most important thing is that you can love somebody and it doesn’t matter who they are.

“Love is love.”
