Transgender Victoria’s Trans Month returns this November

2024 Gender Revel Gala during Trans Month

Transgender Victoria proudly announces the return of Trans Month this November, with the Trans Visibility Awards, Gender Revel Gala and more.

The month-long tribute to the strength, joy, and wholeness of our transgender, gender diverse and non-binary (TGD) communities, Trans Month, is returning this November.

Launching in 2024, the month-long celebration surrounding Trans Awareness Week and Trans Day of Remembrance featured a range of trans-centric events and initiatives.

“Last year’s Trans Month saw over 1,200 TGD people attend 19 events across the month,” TGV said in their announcement.

“With 83% of TGD people reporting feelings of loneliness and isolation,”

“We’re committed to building upon the success of last year, bringing more social connection to our communities.”

The Trans Visibility Awards return.

Today,  Transgender Victoria announced that the Trans Month highlight, the Gender Revel Gala, will return on Friday, 7th November.

And that nominations have opened for the annual Trans Visibility Awards.

“We need more opportunities to celebrate our transness in a world, because being trans is great.” Hank from TGV told QNews.

“We’ve been planning trans month since March.”

“And we want to make sure that people are saving the date for the Gender Revel Gala, and getting their nominations in for the Trans Visibility Awards.”

The community have just over a month to get their nominations in.

The Trans Visibility Awards honour the incredible contributions of transgender, gender diverse and non-binary people and allies.

Nominating someone is an opportunity to recognise the changemakers and champions in our communities.

“We are encouraging people to think of a trans person in their community, in their world, who’s worth a little bit of recognition and celebration,” Hanks said.

“We have one particular category for allies.”

Nominations close mid-August.

Categories include the Regional Star Award, for someone living regionally and having an impact in their local community.

The Creative Excellence Award, for someone who has made significant contributions to the creative arts.

The Changemaker Award goes to someone who has made a substantial impact through a project or business initiative.

The Influencer Award goes to a spokesperson, media personality, influencer, or any individual who has made a positive contribution to social narratives about TGD people

The Unsung Hero Award goes to a dedicated volunteer or community member who works behind the scenes to improve the lives of TGD people.

The Young Leader Award goes to a TGD person aged 18-30 who has demonstrated exceptional leadership within their community or field.

The Legacy Award celebrates a TGD person aged 55 or above who has shown lifelong dedication and leadership within our communities, inspiring future generations.

And the Ally of the Year Award is for an exceptional ally who consistently advocates for, supports, and champions the rights and well-being of TGD communities.

“This year, nominations close mid-August,” Hank said.

“And we will have an independent judging panel to select finalists and winners.

“All the winners will be announced at the Gender Revel Gala on the 7th of November.”

Over three hundred people attended last year’s Gender Revel Gala, an amazing and affirming event.

“To be with so many trans people embodying their joy and euphoria, having full permission and safety to be their authentic selves, was special,”

“To be able to put that on again for our communities is a real privilege.” Hank said.

Tickets will go on sale for the Gender Revel Gala in September.

Host an event this Trans Month.

Looking at the website, we can see a new addition to the Trans Month program this year.

With The Great Trans Bake Off on Saturday, the 15th of November.

While we are still waiting for details to drop, Hank from TGV teased this new part of the month-long celebration.

“We wanted to make sure that people had the dates saved in their calendars,” Hank said.

“I think we’re calling it the sweetest trans event of the year, and it will be a big one.

“More to come very soon.”

With a whole month to celebrate and elevate our trans, gender diverse and nonbinary communities, Transgender Victoria has put the call out for others to add their own events to the program.

“We were involved in 19 events directly last year,” Hank said.

“And as an organisation, it is not a sustainable thing for us to be running 19 trans centric events across a month.

“But what we do think is worthwhile is encouraging other community groups, organisations and individuals to plan their own event.

“To give them a chance to get creative.

“To think about what their specific community or friendship circle would love to do.

“They can register the event on the website, and we will be able to promote it as part of the broader program of Trans Month.”

So get those thinking caps on!

The size or scope of your event doesn’t matter; your idea can be big or small.

“We’re already having conversations with folks who might want to host their chest surgery fundraiser in November,” Hank said.

“And we would be happy to promote that as part of Trans Month.”

“People may want to do a little pub event or get ten friends together for a pub.

“We just really want to encourage the social connection with trans people.

“More than 80% of trans people report feeling lonely in life.

“And what Trans Month is about is bringing our communities together.

“Building friendships and finding joy in our transness.”
