America’s Got Talent contestant Julia Scotti wowed the judges and audience alike with her hilarious stand-up comedy routine.
Julia, 63, sailed through to the next round of the talent show with the routine after receiving unanimous “yeses” from Simon Cowell, Melanie Brown, Howie Mandel and Heidi Klum.
Taking to the stage, she said she wanted to show people that age has nothing to do with it.
“You know, you don’t stop because you’ve got grey hair… right?”
After the routine, Mandell asked her why she had started so late in life.
“Um, I was 28 when I started and I did it for 20 years and then I took 11 years off and became a teacher … and there were other issues.
“Do you want to know what they were?
“For the first 28 years of my life I was known as Rick Scotti. So this is big for me.”
Julia’s revelation that she was assigned male at birth was met with emotional applause.
“Whether you’re a man, or whether you’re a woman, you’re human,” Mandel replied.
“And you’re funny! And you’re talented! And you’re brave, and I am so glad we got to see you.”
