UK Olympic diver Tom Daley has revealed that he and fiance Dustin Lance Black plan to become parents.
Tom’s been in training “six hours a day, six days a week” for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, which begin on August 5, and he told UK newspaper The Sun that starting a family was definitely on the cards after he retires from the sport.
“It’s not a question of ‘if’, just ‘when,’” he said.
“I’ve always said I’ll keep diving as long as my body lets me. But the beauty of being an athlete is you retire young and you’ve got your whole life ahead of you.
“Once I’ve finished with diving there are going to be other avenues I’d like to explore. Family has always been a massive thing.”
Tom got engaged to screenwriter Dustin last year, and Tom told The Sun he and Dustin will get married next year but the couple “haven’t planned a thing yet.”
Tom also spoke about the OCD he developed after one of his dives went dramatically wrong at the 2012 Olympics in London.
“It traumatised me so badly, I became this massive OCD freak. I lived in such fear of the dive I couldn’t walk across drains without thinking the world was going to end,” he recalled.
“If I didn’t sleep well, I thought everything was going to go wrong. I was permanently terrified and never waned to be in a pool again. I hated the sport and wanted to shut off from everything.”
