These Shoe Ads Are A Bit Too Sexy For The Christian Lobby’s Tastes

The Australian Christian Lobby’s Queensland director Wendy Francis has warned parents about a shoe brand’s new “R-rated” ad campaign that she says is “all about rooting”.

“Parents be aware Dunlop Volley still sell sandshoes for school kids, but their website has R rated images as they’re now ‘all about rooting,'” Wendy tweeted, referring to the shoe brand’s new “Grassroots” ad campaign.

A longtime campaigner against sexualised advertising, she added: “Volley sandshoes ads are defended as fine for our kids. I’m ridiculed for concern. I’ll cop the ridicule and keep fighting for kid’s innocence.”

The company said on their website the new campaign is a “celebration of sexual expression” and they partnered with Ansell condoms to promote safe sex, sharing a photo of a tennis racquet covered by a condom on Twitter last year.

The company responded to Ms Francis on Twitter, writing: “Thanks for rooting for us!”

And the photographer behind the series of nude snaps, Marisa Taschke, pointed out to Wendy that her outrage had just sent the photos viral.

“Big shout out to @volleyaustralia number one fan @wendyjoyfrancis and the Australian Christian Lobby!” she wrote on Instagram.

“You’ve helped spread the message behind #grassroots! Your ignorance and hate has helped educate more Australians about safe sex! … We’re dedicating this one to you girlfriend!!”

But the reaction on Twitter has been pretty priceless.
