Truffles remain hugely popular with foodies visiting the Granite Belt. The region is the only area in Queensland with a suitable climate for the underground mushroom to grow.
The Truffle Discovery Centre Stanthorpe is the first truffiere in Queensland open to the public. It unearths everything truffle! Enjoy the opportunity to view truffle host trees, experience the interactive gallery with information and videos.
And of course, taste the yummy truffle products.
Owner Matt Hibberd explains “We now stock the widest range of truffle products anywhere in South East Queensland made locally as well as truffle products sourced from around Australia and the world. The range includes truffle in olive oils, honey, salt, aioli, cheese, balsamic glaze, salsa, butter, mayo, seasoning, mustard and more.”
Fresh French Black Perigord Winter truffles are for sale at times during winter when harvest is available.
The gallery is located at Lawdogs Australia who train dogs to become truffle detection dogs. Many of these pooches come from pounds and rescues and are receiving a second chance at life with a fun career sniffing out the underground delicacies.
Over the last three years, the Truffle Discovery Centre has also expanded by opening a retail shop and tasting gallery at Mt Tamborine and now created a new brand called Granite Belt Gourmet.
Matt said, “The Granite Belt Gourmet brand covers lots of gourmet goodness including non-truffle lines like jams, chutneys, sauces and more as well as unique gifts.”
