It’s been a long and rough road to the end but The Ellen Degeneres show is finally set to end.

After 19 seasons the controversial TV host will soon go off the air.

The hit show now has less than four months left until its final episode airs.

Where it all started for Ellen

There was a time when Ellen Degeneres was making history for all the right reasons.

After starring in her own sitcom Ellen in 1994 she was a household name.

Three years later Ellen Degeneres came out in spectacular fashion.

“Yep, I’m gay” read the headline on the cover of Time magazine on April 14th, 1997.

Almost two weeks later her television character made the same admission.

This made Ellen the first lead character in a TV series to announce that they were gay.

Twelve months later Ellen the sitcom was no more, the openly gay star had effectively been cancelled.

After a long hiatus, Ellen Degeneres returned with her sitcom The Ellen Show in 2001.

The show lasted just 13 episodes.

The Ellen Degeneres show

2003 saw the return of Ellen Degeneres that no-one could have foreseen.

Returning as a talk show host she launched The Ellen Degeneres Show.

Bringing together comedy, celebrity interviews, and giveaways saw Ellen find a new home on television.

The show went on to receive 171 Daytime Emmy Award nominations and won 61 Daytime Emmy Awards.

However, after nearly two decades on air things began to unravel.

In 2020 former staff started to come forward with allegations of mistreatment behind the scenes on the show.

After mounting pressure Ellen made an on-air apology to her staff.

In 2021 she announced the show would come to an end in 2022.

Citing guests such as Michelle Obama, Channing Tatum, Zac Efron, Adam Levine, and Gwen Stefani the star is set to go out on in style, despite her setbacks.

This week it was announced the final episode will air on Thursday, May 26th.

The final episode will mark over 3,000 episodes and over 4,000 guests for the program.

Staff still working on the program will be rewarded with a bonus as the program draws to a close.

The program will continue to air with guest hosts, compilation shows, and repeats after the final episode.
