The Delectably Divine Divas head to Daylesford for ChillOut

A combined tour de force of cabaret, musical theatre and opera reaches new heights as The Delectably Divine Divas get ready to sing up a storm, celebrating queer music icons at the regional pride festival, ChillOut.

Affectionately known as the DDDs, the quartet is made up of cabaret supernova Aurora Kurth, theatrical powerhouse Anna-Lee Robertson, opera tragic Judith Dodsworth and pianist extraordinaire Toni Lalich.

In their new show, they embrace Chillout’s theme of Planet Love, celebrating musical trailblazers, icons and allies who have gone before us.

Conceived and produced by a longtime friend of Chillout, Dawn Holland,

“Dawn wanted to create her unique take on a girl group,” Judith Dodsworth told QNews.

“She brought us all together, and we’ve put some different spins on the show while we’ve performed it and are excited to be heading to ChillOut.”

“It’s next level for us.”

‘We are kind of like middle-aged Spice Girls’

The Delectably Divine Divas blends storytelling, old-school harmonies and powerhouse vocals straddling the worlds of cabaret, musical theatre and opera.

They will be performing at ChillOut’s Big Top on Saturday afternoon.

You can expect to hear unique tributes to Doris Day, Gloria Gaynor, Liza Minnelli, kd lang, Dusty Springfield, Freddie Mercury and more.

“We each have our foot in these musical worlds and are coming together, kind of like a middle-aged Spice Girls.” Dodsworth laughed.

“I’m opera spice, Aurora is cabaret spice, Emily is soprano spice with the wonderful Toni on piano.”

“As we musically celebrate female voices and icons, we’re really loving ChillOut’s theme of Planet Love this year.

“We all feel that that’s what the planet needs right now, and we want to bring the love to our audience as well.”

‘This is who we are, this is who we love’

Dodswoorth joy for the quartet shows through her illustration of them all together (pictured above).

She joked that the DDDs are the warm-up show for Reuben Kaye, who performs in The Big Top Saturday evening.

“That’s pretty exciting, we love Reuben and are so excited he is coming to ChillOut,” she said.

“We’re excited for the musical synergy audiences will experience when they come and see our show as we perform together.”

“We just love performing together and infiltrating each other’s musical worlds and genres. It’s all about using music as empowerment and about honouring the past. Today’s generation has no idea how good they have it.

“These trailblazers weren’t afraid to tell their stories and share their songs, saying this is who we are, and this is who we love, and that is what The Delectibly Divine Divas are all about.”

Catch The Delectible Divine Divas at ChillOut Festival on Saturday, March 7, in The Big Top at 2:30 pm.
