TAIWAN – TAIPEI CITY INVITES SAME-SEX COUPLES TO MARRY


Since 1973 over 16,000 couples have participated in mass wedding ceremonies hosted by the Taipei City Government, and now for the first time same-sex couples have been permitted to participate.

This year year, out of 123 couples to step forward and say ‘I do’ in front of a packed crowd, ten were same sex couples.

Despite no formal recognition of the union by the state, the couples were happy to join in.

“Every love deserves to be cherished,” said Taipei City Mayor Ko Wen-je, who served as the ceremony’s presiding witness.
