Sunshine Coast LGBTIQ families and their allies will come together to celebrate International Family Equality Day (IFED) this weekend.
It will be the new group Rainbow Families Sunshine Coast’s first official meetup, at Pioneer Park in Landsborough, on Sunday May 6 from 10am to 12pm.
The group will then holding a monthly social event on the second Sunday of every month from June onwards.
Co-convenor Holly Zwalf said the park has a great playground for the kids and families are encouraged to bring a picnic blanket on the day.
“We are very excited to have this new group up and running,” co-convenor Holly Zwalf said.
“There are many many rainbow families living on the Sunshine Coast, and bringing us all together as a group will give us more resilience as well as help build a sense of community that has previously been missing from the area.
“We’re proud to be celebrating our first meet-up on such an important day.”
International Family Equality Day aims to highlight the diversity of family structures and to strengthen solidarity among families, helping to raise awareness among politicians and the general public about the need for equal treatment and recognition for all families.
Rainbow Families Sunshine Coast will be joining groups around the globe in celebrating the unique contribution made by diverse families including LGBTIQ-parented families, solo parent families, foster families, adoptive families, and grandparent-carer families.
