New Sunshine Coast pride event the Out ‘n’ Proud festival has been postponed for a second time due to Australia’s COVID-19 outbreaks.

The brand new rainbow pride festival was originally scheduled for June 19 at Caloundra’s Kings Beach. It was previously postponed to August 21.

However Victoria, Sydney and South Australia are currently in lockdown. The states are all reporting new COVID-19 cases, as well as border closures across the country.

Out n Proud co-founder David Newman said they must now postpone the festival again. He said the team will announce a new date, later in the year.

“Growing COVID outbreaks and increasing restrictions in effect across most of the country have made it quite clear the decision to present the event wouldn’t be a responsible one,” he said.

“Our headline artists are all scattered in and around these impacted areas.

“While we would love to bring live music back to South East Queensland, it simply would not be a viable decision.

“Launching a festival in the current nature of COVID is a challenge.

“But we firmly believe that this celebration of people, pride and culture is too important to let slip.

“While we may not be able to present our feature event, the Out ‘n’ Proud Team will continue to deliver smaller events, programs, initiatives and content over the coming weeks.”

Out ‘n’ Proud Festival’s new date announced soon

Previously announced headliners for the Out ‘n’ Proud festival included Jack Vidgen, Clara Fable and Sheldon Riley.

Organiser David Newman said discussions are underway and the team would announce new details soon.

He said the team is working on not only an event for late 2021, but also a 2022 tour.

“We want to bring the industry and community together on the other side of this pandemic,” he said.

“We want to thank and express our deep gratitude to the 1,600 ticketholders, stallholders, contractors, support staff and followers for the ongoing support.

“The Out n Proud team cannot wait to party with you, real soon.”
