Brisbane’s Sportsman Hotel will this month induct another distinguished drag queen into the venue’s Queensland Drag Hall of Fame.
The Drag Hall of Fame takes pride of place in the Lounge Bar of the Spring Hill venue. This Australia Day Eve, another big local name will be immortalised in it, as selected by Sporties’ directors and management.
Sporties performers Vollie LaVont and Mandy Moobs will announce the new inductee at a ceremony and show on Thursday, January 25.
The Drag Hall of Fame was established at the venue in January last year, with the first four names announced.
Friends took to the stage to deliver speeches paying tribute to the careers of local legends Miss Synthetique, Dame Sybil Von Thorndyke, Dame Liz Taylor, and Wanda D’Parke (pictured, left to right).
“Tomorrow is Australia Day, a special day with awards given to special people who strive to improve our lives, outstanding in their chosen fields,” host Candy Surprise told the crowd at the time.
“There are many entertainers in our community who have gone unrecognised for their hard work and their dedication to the art of drag.
“Tonight we’d like to highlight some of these fabulous entertainers and remind you of their valued contribution to the Brisbane drag scene.”
Who will this year’s winner be?
The Queensland Drag Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held at the Sportsman Hotel from 10:30pm on January 25, with shows also at midnight and 1:30am at 130 Leichhardt Street in Spring Hill, Brisbane. For more, see the Facebook event here.
