SPORTIES TO UNVEIL ‘NELLIE’S BAR’ THIS WEEKEND

Nellie's Bar

The Sportsman Hotel will unveil Nellie’s Bar this weekend at a grand champagne opening on Easter Sunday.

Formally known as the Mineshaft, the downstairs area has undergone a renovation. Along with a new look comes a new name. In honour of longtime hotel owner Neil McLucas, the bar will now be known as ‘Nellie’s Bar’. Neil embraced his camp nickname decades ago.

The opening night celebrations will begin at 8:00 pm with guests receiving free pink champagne for the first hour.

In addition to the major changes downstairs, the hotel’s two upstairs bars are also set for a few minor changes in the near future aimed at sprucing up the look of the iconic bars without losing the Sportsman Hotel’s ‘old school pub’ feel.

To complement the new look, the Sporties have welcomed well-known Brisbane DJ, Fradge to the fold, who will provide a new sound every Friday night in the upstairs lounge bar. Having played at Australia’s biggest gay venues and parties including Arq, Stonewall, Tropical Fruits, White Wolf and Big Gay Day, DJ Fradge sure knows his audience and is sure to have the Sporties pumping every week.
