An ABC News reporter has revealed the truth about a hilarious X-rated optical illusion during an ABC broadcast after viewers spotted a phallic object during his segment.

On Wednesday, Melbourne-based ABC finance journalist Daniel Ziffer presented a segment from home via Zoom during ABC News’ Afternoon Briefing program.

However some ABC viewers were very distracted by a black item resembling a sex toy sitting on the shelf behind the reporter.

One viewer called into KIIS FM’s The Kyle and Jackie O Show to get the radio host’s thoughts.

“I just had a look up at the television screen and it was ABC News,” he told the radio show.

“They crossed over to this bloke and on the bookshelf behind him, I swear it’s a dildo.”

Looking at the footage himself, host Kyle Sandilands agreed, laughing, “It is a dildo!

“Clearly, to the right side of the guy’s head – mouth height by the way – there’s a big black dildo.”

Co-host Jackie O added that she couldn’t think of what else it could be.

But the truth was later revealed by the ABC News reporter, and it’s a very funny optical illusion.

Ziffer took to Twitter to share photos of the shelf and revealed what viewers were looking at.

The photos – from a different angle – revealed the item was actually a folded, black and white Geelong Cats scarf.

What seemed to be a shiny plastic surface was in fact just the black and white pattern of the folded scarf.

“So… how has your morning been?” Ziffer tweeted, laughing.
