Brisbane soprano Ana Marina has starred in productions of Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables but she’s taking on a new role as a singer-songwriter with the launch of her album Haunted.
Ms Marina said the album is the realisation of a lifelong dream, after her illustrious stage career.
“Performing was such a huge part of my life, and I was able to travel to some incredible places, sharing the stage with inspirational artists across the world,” she said.
“After all of this excitement, I took a break to start a family, and then got to work on making the transition from singing other people’s songs to writing and singing my own. It was something I’d been dreaming of doing since my teens.”
Produced by Underground Opera Company Presents, Ms Marina will launch the CD on May 19 and follow with a concert on May 26 at Brisbane’s 140-year-old underground venue Spring Hill Reservoir, which sits in the shadow of the Old Tower Mill on Wickham Terrace.
Ms Marina will perform her originals complemented by pieces composed by her musical inspirations, such as The Eagles, U2, and of course, Andrew Lloyd Webber.
“The album contains five of my own original songs and also some covers I have always loved. I can’t wait to showcase this music I’ve created – it will be the realisation of a fantastic dream,” she said.
