Sia ‘Turned Down $1 Million’ To Keep New Track

Sia has revealed her electrifying new single was originally written for Adele and offered to Rihanna before the Aussie singer recorded it for her upcoming new album This Is Acting.

The enigmatic Australian singer said Adele, whose long-awaited new album is due in November, wrote the track, titled “Alive,” with her and also recorded a demo.

Sia explained to Apple’s Beats 1 radio station: “Adele heard it and asked if she could have it. I thought ‘Do I like it, or do I like a million dollars?’ She cut it and it was so amazing. I’m a huge fan of her voice.”

But Adele decided against putting the track on her new album, so Sia then pitched the song to Rihanna but ended up having doubts.

“We wrote three songs in two days and none of them made the cut, and [“Alive”] was one of them,” she told Ryan Seacrest on his radio show.

“I said to her, ‘Do you mind if I pitch it to Rihanna?’ She said, ‘Yeah, but can you take my vocal off it because I don’t want my vocal floating around out there on a demo.’ And I was like, ‘Sure.’ So I went and recut the vocal and everybody in my life was like, ‘You can’t give this away to anybody.’”

Sia, who has written tracks like Beyonce’s “Pretty Hurts” and Rihanna’s “Diamonds”, also revealed to Beats 1 the identity of her next collaborator.

“I’m going to write with [British singer-songwriter FKA Twigs]. I don’t normally write with artists, it just makes it harder and takes longer for me. It’s easier for me to write the songs and just pitch them,” she explained.

“I think Twigs is really interesting and I want to work with her. We’re going to get some crazy choruses.”
