Self-advocacy group Rainbow Rights and Advocacy has launched We All Speak Up, a bystander activation campaign calling on everyday people to show up for LGBTIQA+ people with intellectual disability.
We All Speak Up grew out of a simple message from the Rainbow Rights group themself, “Everyone has to speak up; it’s everyone’s responsibility.”
Rainbow Rights and Advocacy is run by and for LGBTIQA+ people with an intellectual disability. They work together to make sure they have the same rights, choices, and opportunities as everyone else.
The group meet fortnightly to have their voices heard within the general community and support one another.
“We are keeping on with the fight for equality, for all of us,” Rainbow Rights member Greg said at the launch of We All Speak Up.
The bystander activation campaign calls on everyday people to show up for LGBTIQA+ people with intellectual disability.
The campaign was co-designed by and with self-advocates from Rainbow Rights, and produced in partnership with Archer Studio of Drummond Street Services.

This is not about cataloguing discrimination
“LGBTQIA+ people with intellectual disability have a right to be safe in public,” reads the campaign’s core message, developed by Rainbow Rights members through a series of co-design sessions.
“Accept us for who we are and listen to what we want.”
With videos produced by Archer Studio, the campaign takes a positive lens, showing everyday bystanders and allies what it actually looks like to stand up and be tall for LGBTIQA+ people with intellectual disability.
“Rainbow Rights has a powerful message to share with their allies,” Mags McMurray, Project Worker at Rainbow Rights and Advocacy, said.
“We need to stand beside them, listen, and speak up when we see something not right in the community.”
The campaign features Sarah, Michael Castro and Greg Morris, three Rainbow Rights members who share their own experiences and what safety in public looks like to them.
It runs across six social video clips, four website videos and five campaign social posts, all captioned and built to be accessible for a wide audience.
We All Speak Up is designed to be used well beyond launch day, with resources built for community groups, workplaces and allies to keep the conversation going.
The campaign was produced by Hailey Moroney at Archer Studio, and co-designed in collaboration with the Rainbow Rights group at every step.
Chris Bennett of Underground Media shot and edited the videos.
