Guy Sebastian has changed his tune and will perform the ‘soul-pop’ Tonight Again, when representing Australia at Eurovision in Vienna.
Sebastian will be accompanied by an Australian band for one of the biggest audiences any Australian has sung for – estimated at up to 200 million television viewers.
The choice of Guy Sebastian divided the nation – undoubtedly his choice of song will do the same.
Sebastian originally said he was deciding between a couple of songs from his latest album, Madness, both of which were ballads.
His thinking was that a power ballad would showcase his best weapon, his voice. But it is understood Sebastian reconsidered because so many of the songs performed at Eurovision are mid-tempo pop songs.
“I thought since I had a couple of days off in Australia I would try and write something new,” he said.
“We all have moments you don’t want to end and you wish you could live those moments every day so I wanted to write a song about that feeling.”
Tonight Again was written and recorded by Sebastian in Sydney in the space of a week.
“It is a song we can all get behind, and Guy is the perfect artist to deliver a world class performance for Australia and SBS on the world’s biggest stage,” said SBS managing director Michael Ebeid.
Guy Sebastian will be fast-tracked to the Eurovision 2015 Grand Final as a special one-off wild-card entry.
The Eurovision Song Contest will screen live on SBS One from May 20-24.
