Chihuahua has just become the fourth state in Mexico to officially approve same-sex marriage. Unlike other jurisdictions around the world which have recently introduced marriage equality with dramatic & emotionally charged referendums and parliamentary votes, Chihuahua’s change of policy was as simple as Governor César Duarte Jáquez making an announcement that his government would no longer discriminate against same-sex couples effective immediately. The Chihuahuan government is also expected to compensate 31 same-sex couples after they were denied requests to marry through a legal process.
