“Looking to the future, we are working towards a South Australia where sexual and reproductive health and rights are upheld, where stigma continues to decline, and where every person is treated with dignity, respect and compassion.”

The partnership also supports efforts to improve equitable access to sexual and reproductive health care across the state. Services are delivered through SHINE SA clinics in Adelaide CBD, Woodville and the recently reopened Davoren Park clinic, alongside telehealth options that help connect people in regional and remote communities with expert care.

Minister for Health and Wellbeing of South Australia, Blair Boyer, said he was proud of the government’s support to improve the health of LGBTIQA+ South Australians.

“It was Don Dunstan’s Labor Government who first funded what was then Shine SA, and I’m proud that the Malinauskas Labor Government has expanded that support to enable Shine SA to re-open a clinic in Davoren Park.”

Delivering evidence-based education and health promotion initiatives

“SHINE SA and the Malinauskas Labor Government share a commitment to improve the health and wellbeing of all South Australians and address health inequities,” Boyer said.

“This renewed partnership will ensure South Australians can continue to access affordable, high-quality sexual and reproductive health services, information and support, regardless of where they live. It will also help advance important public health goals, including preventing HIV and eliminating cervical cancer as a public health threat.”

“Beyond direct clinical services, SHINE SA plays a critical role in strengthening the broader health system by supporting health professionals to provide high-quality sexual and reproductive health care.”

SHINE SA also delivers evidence-based education and health promotion initiatives that help people make informed choices, build healthy and respectful relationships, prevent unintended pregnancies, and reduce the transmission of HIV and other sexually transmissible infections.

‘SHINE SA’s work empowering all South Australian communities’

“The recently launched SA State Public Health Plan 2026-2030 provides a blueprint for the achievement of a healthy, liveable and connected community for all South Australians,” said Department for Health and Wellbeing Communicable Disease Control Branch Executive Director Noel Lally.

“Maintaining healthy relationships and positive sexual and reproductive health is fundamental to individual and population health and wellbeing, as is the prevention of unintended pregnancies, gender-based violence, HIV, STIs and cervical cancer, which is vaccine-preventable. ”

  1. Fantastic news, however long-overdue legislation needs to pass federally to protect both students and teachers from discrimination – on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity and sex characteristics within religious schools too.
