Actor Ryan Reynolds has spoken about his love for playing onscreen superhero Deadpool, and said he’d be happy for the flirty character to be given a boyfriend in the upcoming sequel.
“What love is to Deadpool may not be what love is to Batman or someone else,” Ryan told Variety.
“I think that could be played up more. He’s an outsider in every way, shape, and form.
The first Deadpool movie, released in February last year, and was adapted from the Marvel comic series in which Deadpool is famously pansexual, making no distinction between genders in his choice of partners.
Ryan explained: “The only thing that you have to consider going forward is, ‘Are we being faithful to the canon that we nurtured and created?’
“One of those things is that Deadpool is in love with Vanessa. Deadpool isn’t in love with Vanessa just because she’s a woman. He’s in love with Vanessa because he loves her.”
The actor has scored a Best Actor nomination for the role at this year’s Golden Globe Awards, and he told Variety he hope there was a lot more Deadpool to come.
“I would love to play Deadpool for as long as they would let me play Deadpool,” he said.
“We have outlines and stories for a number of different films.”
Deadpool 2 is set to be released in March 2018.
