While Ricky Martin is best known these days for his music career and time spent shirtless on the beach, the star is returning to TV for new show Mrs. American Pie

Australians would remember Ricky Martin appeared on the second, third and fourth season of The Voice Australia.

He also made a stunning turn in Ryan Murphy creation, The Assassination of Gianni Versace.

Ricky Martin returns

Ricky Martin is putting his music career aside for a moment to tackle his first leading television gig.

It has been reported that the She Bangs star will feature in a leading role in the new Apple+ TV show Mrs. American Pie.

Created by Laura Dern & Abe Sylvia the show is described as a period comedy.

Ricky will play the role of Robert in Mrs. American Pie, alongside some other big names.

Little is known about his character yet.

Also slated to appear are the likes of Kristen Wiig, comedy legend Alison Janney and Laura Dern.

Ricky Martin last appeared on The Assassination of Gianni Versace playing the role of Antonio D’Amico which he received an Emmy nomination for.

Mrs. American Pie

After the huge success and critical acclaim of The Assassination of Gianni Versace it seems fitting that Ricky Martin would pursue more roles to bolster his career.

Mrs. American Pie looks set to be the perfect launching pad.

Set as a ten part series the story is based on the novel by Juliet McDaniel.

Kristen Wiig will play the leading role of Maxine Simmons.

The story will follows Simmons in her quest to become a part of the exclusive Palm Beach high society.

“As Maxine attempts to cross that impermeable line between the haves and have-nots, Mrs. American Pie asks the same questions that still baffle us today. ‘who gets a seat at the table?’ “How do you get a seat at the table?’ What will you sacrifice to get there?’”

“Set during the powder keg era of the early 1970s, Mrs. American Pie is a testament to every outsider fighting for their chance at superficial greatness.”
