Central Queensland – CQ – Pride Fair Day is ready to rock Rockhampton next week at the Central Queensland University. Held on Saturday 20 September, the pirate themed fair day is a free event for all LGBT people along with their families & friends, and will feature live entertainment, market stalls, sausage sizzle, access to a variety of services, activities and prizes. The official ClubRok after party is at Flamingo’s on Quay.
CQ Fair Day representative Alan Flood told QNews the event is bigger than ever this year.
It originally stemmed from a need to let locals know that there was LGBT support for them in the area. The day has grown into a vibrant celebration.
“Back in 2011, an article in the Morning Bulletin crowned Rocky as the Homophobe capital of Australia, so we realised the need for Central Queensland Fair Day to counter that attitude and become more visible.” Flood said.
“CQ Fair Day happens Saturday 20th September followed immediately by ClubRok later that night with the theme of ‘Pirates’. We wanted a toned down gay pride day. It remains a family friendly event for the LGBTI community and their friends.”
“The day is really about connecting with others, meeting new friends. It will give people the opportunity to play a part in the future of what for many of us is our home and community.
“I believe the most important thing we can do in the age of social media is to actually encourage people to get out of the house. Come out see what makes the LGBTI community of Central Queensland so special.”
Central Queensland Fair Day takes place 12pm-4pm on Saturday 20 September at the CQ University, Rockhampton campus. Entry is free. The official ClubRok after party: 8:30-2am at Flamingo’s on Quay.
