A Queensland producer says the upcoming staging of a rare Beethoven ballet at Brisbane’s Twelfth Night Theatre has been a lifelong dream of his.
Theatrical production company Lynch & Paterson, who have previously sold out their Jesus Christ Superstar and The Pirates of Penzance shows, are premiering Beethoven’s ballet The Creatures of Prometheus in Australia in November.
Two hundred and twenty years ago, Beethoven’s only full-length ballet originally premiered in Vienna, Austria. And next month The Creatures of Prometheus will come to Brisbane at the Twelfth Night Theatre in Bowen Hills.
The ballet draws the audience into the mythical story of Prometheus, who steals fire from the Gods to spark life into two clay figures and creates humankind.
Producer Lucas D. Lynch and his team have historically reconstructed the ballet from the original 1801 performance.
Talented Queenslander Jayden Grogan has created new choreography, performed by emerging ballet dancers.
The audience will also experience Beethoven’s rare ballet score performed by the Cadenza Chamber Players, conducted by Lynch.
Among the music featured in The Creatures of Prometheus is Beethoven’s stirring and powerful Coriolan Overture and the Allegretto from Symphony 7.

Lucas D. Lynch said he is “so looking forward” to conducting this work at the Twelfth Night Theatre.
“We’re working with such phenomenal ballet dancers from around Brisbane alongside our very talented choreographer, Jayden,” he explained.
“It has been my dream since I was a teenager to have this ballet staged. So much so, I made it the core component of my doctoral thesis at Griffith University.”
The boutique Twelfth Night Theatre is located in Bowen Hills in Brisbane.
It’s opposite the Bowen Hills train state and a short drive from Fortitude Valley.
The Creatures of Prometheus Ballet is at the Twelfth Night Theatre on November 19 and 20. Tickets on sale now at (07) 3252 5122 or through Ticketek here.
