The queens from RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under joined celebrities on the blue carpet for the Down Under Drag Race premiere at the Sydney Opera House last night. David Campbell hosted the event which featured a sneak peek at the first episode.
RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under begins on Stan from 4 pm today.
The Down Under version of the Drag Race franchise follows US, UK, Thai and Canadian versions. RuPaul hosts the premiere eight-part series with US and UK regular Michelle Visage as well as Australian comedian Rhys Nicholson. Kylie Minogue will guest judge as will sister Dannii. Although neither Minogue made it to the Sydney Opera House premiere, Kiwi judge film director Taiki Waititi, partied on the blue carpet.
Ten fierce Aussie and Kiwi queens will compete to become Down Under’s first-ever Drag Race superstar.
Anita Wigl’it and Kita Mean crossed the ditch to join their Aussie sisters for last night’s premiere. However, Elektra Shock was MIA. All the local queens showed up: Art Simone, Coco Jumbo, Etcetera Etcetera, Jojo Zaho, Karen from Finance, Maxi Shield, and Scarlet Adams.
Stars on the blue carpet for Down Under Drag Race premiere
Local and international celebrities joined in the fun at the blue carpet world premiere. Singers included Britain’s Rita Ora along with Australia’s Samantha Jade and Rob Mills. There were also acting stars including Claudia Karvan, Ryan Corr, Jake Ryan, Nathalie Morris, and Carlos Sanson Jnr.
The Ru Paul’s Drag Race Down Under producers obviously did their homework. It seems they knew of the little-known Australian constitutional amendment that requires an invitation to the Wilkins family and Roxy Jacenko at any event with more than one camera crew or three paparazzi in attendance.
