The hit musical “We Will Rock You” will soon return to Brisbane.
It’s based on the music of Queen, is written and directed by Ben Elton and tells the story of a group of Bohemians who struggle to restore the free exchange of thought, fashion, and music in a dystopian future where everyone dresses, thinks and acts the same.
Elton created the show around Queen’s biggest hit songs including We Are The Champions, Radio Ga Ga, I Want To Break Free, Somebody To Love, Killer Queen, Don’t Stop Me Now, Under Pressure, Bohemian Rhapsody, Another One Bites The Dust and of course, We Will Rock You.
The new Australian cast includes Gareth Keegan as Galileo, Erin Clare as Scaramouche, Aussie rocker Brian Mannix as Buddy and Casey Donovan as the Killer Queen.
Queen’s Brian May and Roger Taylor are music supervisors, and Ben Elton said he’s assembled a “powerhouse cast” of Australian talent.
“Australian musical theatre is famous worldwide for the excellence of the artists it produces,” he said.
“We Will Rock You has featured Australians in productions as far apart as Toronto, London and Berlin. Check a musical cast list on Broadway or in the West End and the chances are you’ll spot an Aussie. Brian, Roger and I know that the new all-Australian cast is second to none.”
The original Australian tour of We Will Rock You opened in 2003, making Australia the first country outside the UK to produce a local version of the musical.
We Will Rock You opens in Brisbane at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre on July 10. For tickets see QPAC.com.au
