Local water polo team the Brisbane Tritons took home the National Water Polo League’s Pride Cup in Fortitude Valley last Saturday.
The Pride Cup was established last year to promote inclusion in the sport, and this year was held at Brisbane’s Valley Pool for the seventh round of the National Water Polo League.
Furthermore, the Barracudas triumphed over the rival team the Queensland Breakers in the clash, beating them 6-4 in the female game and 14-6 in the men’s in front of a packed audience.
The same day, members of Australia’s LGBTI and inclusive water polo teams – the Melbourne Surge, the Sydney Stingers and our home team the Brisbane Tritons – joined members of the Barracudas and the Breakers to form two Equality All-Stars teams for a match to win the newly-created Pride Shield.
“Five clubs in the water showing that our sport is inclusive. Thanks to all who came down the @valleypoolbrisbane to watch. See you next year!” the Tritons wrote on social media.
