Around 20,000 women converged on sunny California at the start of the month for The Club Skirts Dinah Shore Weekend, the world’s biggest lesbian festival. 2017
The women all gathered for a wild long weekend of sun, sex, pool parties, comedy shows and live music at The Dinah’s home in Palm Springs in the California desert from March 29 to April 2.
The event, now in its 27th year, was founded by Mariah Hanson and is named after singer, actress and high-profile golfer Dinah Shore, who wasn’t a lesbian herself.
But a prestigious golf tournament also named after Dinah was attracting increasing numbers of queer women, and many of them went looking for fun in their downtime.
And the now-iconic women’s festival was born. Mariah Hanson told Buzzfeed that in her eyes, the event changes people.
“People leave this event changed. There is a unity here and a solidarity here — a belief in the collective expression of who you are,” she said.
“No matter how you present yourself, that you are accepted here and celebrated here.”
