The Brisbane launch of popular gay party event Trough this Saturday night has been cancelled, organisers have announced.
The sexy Trough parties, inspired by Berlin’s underground club scene, have been popular in Sydney and Melbourne and Saturday night’s event at the Sportsman Hotel was to be Trough’s Brisbane launch.
“A few days ago we received notice from The Sportsman Hotel that the Queensland Office of Liquor Gaming and Racing (OLGR) have decided that they will not be issuing a licence for the sale of alcohol beyond 2am,” organiser Ben Smith said.
“Considering we are a late night event with an intended 5am finish, the above licensing restriction is devastating news for our organising team and loyal patrons.
“We have attempted to negotiate with OLGR, as well as investigate other venue options, but to no avail, so gut-wrenchingly we have been left with little choice but to cancel our upcoming Easter Saturday Launch event.
“All ticketholders will be contacted directly via email and will be issued with a full refund.”
Smith said he understood the impact the cancellation has on many, especially those intending to travel to Brisbane specifically for the event.
“We cannot even begin express how genuinely sorry we are to everyone, particularly given how close to the event this has all happened, but unfortunately legislative restrictions have squeezed us out on this occasion,” he said.
“Thank you to everyone for the huge support that we have received, and hope to be heading to Brisbane again in the near future.”
In its place, the Sportsman Hotel has announced a men’s-only “Shades of Grey” dance party will be held downstairs in the Sporties Bunker Bar from 8pm until 2am on Easter Saturday.
DJ Buzz and DJ Zeke will be on the decks all evening and the party will be fetishwear, footy shorts, underwear and kink-themed.
Entry is $10, discounted to $7.50 for members of BootCo and Brisbears.
