When the third edition of vintage physique mag Go Guys hit the street in the winter of 64, the penis remained taboo.
But vintage male nudes were available for those in the know.
Photographers and publishers still risked jail for the open display of male genitalia. So in vintage physique mags like Go Guys, the models wore at least posing pouches or swimsuits. But the magazines were actually catalogues. Images of the models fully nude were available for a price. As indeed, were many of the models.
A picture of Ernie Matthews and Cherokee at the beach adorned the front cover of Go Guys 1964 Winter Issue. On the inside front, pics of Monte Hanson in a swimsuit and formalwear. Ernie and Monte showed up again on pages 4 & 5 in an ad for a physique film that also starred Bob Jackson and Chuck Steury.
Monte Hanson
Legendary physique photographer Bob Mizer wrote that Monte Hanson would do almost anything to hold an audience. According to the photographer’s infamous code, the young father was available to give blowjobs for the right price, or as an anal top. One of the first physique models to crossover to hard-core porn, Monte posed for pics getting blown by, and then topping, a model called Bob Ryan. Despite his obvious talents, Bob appears not to have done any other physique modelling or porn.

Ernie Matthews
The first extant frontal nude shots of Ernie Matthews date from 4 years after Go Guys Winter 1964 issue. Ernie showed up at AMG in 1968 with friend Brian Hunt and announced the pair would only work exclusively with each other. Some online sources claim Ernie went on to later porn fame as Jay Richards, the life partner of New Jersey filmmaker Robert Prion. It seems unlikely. While they share a chin dimple, Ernie had a question mark tattooed on his upper left arm and Jay does not.

Everett Lee Jackson (Cherokee)
His friends knew Everett Lee Jackson as Cherokee on account of his Native American heritage. He posed for a few physique photographers and made some films but usually kept his posing pouch on. Not always though: click on the following link for evidence. Like most of the models, Everett Lee also hustled. However, he offered limited services — strictly an oral and anal top.

Bob Jackson
Bob Jackson made numerous physique movies for AMG during the sixties. The former sailor also hustled and, according to Bob Mizer, was sexually versatile but suffered from some sexual confusion.

Jim Stryker
Physique superstar Jim Stryker shows up in a menswear ad shot on location at the Grand Canyon. Speaking of grand, did someone say Very Visible Penis Line?
The fashion stylist certainly knew how to make the best of those ‘natural taper slacks’.

Joseph Cali
