A new Latin and ballroom dancing class for same-sex pairs has started in Brisbane.
The new Dance With Me classes in New Farm provide dance lessons in a fun and relaxed atmosphere, where like-minded people can come together to learn Latin and ballroom dancing.
“Our aim is to provide a space for those who feel more comfortable dancing with a same-sex partner,” Dance With Me co-founder and dance instructor Kevin said.
“People can come on their own, with their partner or with friends. Our ethos is that everyone is accepted and welcome.”
The Dance With Me instructors know how important it is to provide a safe and inclusive space for people from all walks of life, regardless of their dancing ability.
“People often feel they need to have some dance skills before coming to a class, but the whole idea is to learn something new,” Kevin said.
“No experience is necessary and dancers don’t need special gear. Just wear comfortable clothes to move in and close-toed shoes.
“We want to encourage our dancers to come along, have fun, learn to dance, get fit and make friends. There are so many benefits.”
Two classes, for all levels including beginners, are held every Tuesday in the Uniting Church Hall at 57 Merthyr Road, New Farm.
One class starts at 6pm and the second starts at 6.45pm. Admission is $15 per person per session. Anyone who attends each of the 45 minute classes can stay longer to practice if they wish.
Then on Saturday, August 20, the group are holding a Latin and Ballroom Social Dance Night at the Uniting Church Hall that everyone is welcome to attend, no matter your level of dancing experience.
