An upcoming documentary will chart the last four years of UK Olympic golden boy Tom Daley’s life. Cameras followed the heartthrob since 2012 for the new film Tom Daley: Diving For Gold.
The documentary covers the sporting star’s sporting, public life in addition to his personal life.
The film will show glimpses of his life including the London Olympics. It also shows him coming out in 2013 and his engagement to Hollywood screenwriter Dustin Lance Black. Later in the film, we see him training for this year’s Olympic Games in Rio de Janiero.
Tom lost his father, his biggest supporter to a brain tumour in 2011. He addresses the loss in the Diving for Gold.
“He always knew what to say to make me feel better. He was always just there to be supportive.”
Producer Neil Edwards described the project as a privilege.
“It’s a privilege to have such intimate access to one of Britain’s best-loved and most talented Olympians.
“Tom’s four-year journey from London 2012 to Rio 2016 is the latest gripping chapter in a story we’ve all been following since he burst into the public consciousness as a young boy.”
The documentary will screen on British TV in the next couple of months. That will coincide with the Rio Olympics in August. In the meantime, we can still enjoy Tom’s YouTube videos just to tide us over.
