New teen lesbian romantic comedy Crush has arrived on Disney+ and people are comparing it to Netflix hit Heartstopper.
The film follows Paige (played by Rowan Blanchard), an out and proud high schooler with a crush on her classmate, Gabby (Isabella Ferreira).
When she has to join her school’s track team, Paige decides to use it as an opportunity to get closer to Gabby.
However, when the track coach pairs Paige up with Gabriella’s sister, AJ (Auli’i Cravalho), Paige’s plans go off the rails.
She had previously dismissed the idea of a relationship with AJ, but the girls get along far better than Paige ever expected.
The movie arrived on streaming in Australia over the weekend on streaming service Disney+.
And some viewers are loving the fact the teen movie doesn’t hinge on coming out or homophobia.
The US film has also come out around the same time as gay UK Netflix series Heartstopper, with its two male protagonists falling in love at high school.
Crush is the feature-length directorial debut from Sammi Cohen and was produced by Maya Rudolph and Natasha Lyonne.
Actress Megan Mullally is also part of Crush’s supporting cast, playing Paige’s mum.

I just love how the coming out processing isn’t a story line and it’s just about stupid little queers falling in love #CrushMovie pic.twitter.com/wzkIYbGxqM

i loved crush and i don’t care if it was “predictable”. i’ve had to endure watching predictable straight romcoms my entire childhood and teenage years because of the lack of lgbt representation in the media, now let me have MY predictable lesbian romcom, thank you #CrushMovie pic.twitter.com/dccLsXpuAO

#CrushMovie is so cheesy & cute & got me laughing. No dragging drama, not a man included in their "love triangle", no fetishization, not a single homophobic remark. Just a happy movie for the queers. idk if its predictable. I've been fed hetero cringey ass movies. i deserve this pic.twitter.com/2qcKyOUw4O

crush is literally such a cute movie, without sexualizing, without too much drama, just two girls falling in love #CrushMovie pic.twitter.com/4NM9r021rh
