Miley Cyrus’ Happy Hippie Organisation has launched a series of portraits of people from across the gender spectrum on Instagram through her Instapride initiative.
The initiative seeks people to share their images and on the popular social network using the hashtag #Instapride.
Cyrus says she wanted to facilitate a unifying space where trans and gender fluid people can feel comfortable sharing their experiences with other people around the world,
“We are celebrating love, support, and resilience with portraits of transgender and gender expansive individuals from all walks of life,” the Happy Hippie Foundation explained on their website.
“Follow #InstaPride during the coming weeks to learn more about the power of acceptance, self-expression and freedom, no matter what our gender identity.”
Miley, who recently came out as gender fluid, told TIME Magazine that the organisation and its initiatives are influenced in part by the the death of Leelah Alcorn, a transgender girl from Ohio lost to suicide earlier this year.
“People like Leelah are not living their lives because people are telling them what to be,” Miley explained.
“I can stand on a stage with my tits out. It’s so unfair that I’m allowed to be like this and there are two men that can’t get married in f—ing Nashville right now.
