Fox Sports broadcaster Megan Barnard today responded to the comments about her from Tom Morris that saw her former colleague fired.
Last week, Fox Sports sacked Tom Morris over two leaked recordings. In one, he described Megan Barnard as ‘the hottest girl at Fox Sports’ and then made crude references to her sexuality.
Don’t treat me like shit
In the other recording, Tom Morris demanded not to be treated like shit because he is a straight white man.
“I’m not Asian, I’m not black, I’m not a woman, I’m not gay, so don’t treat me like shit. I’m a man with a heart and I’ve got feelings. Love youse all.”
Fox Sports first stood Tom Morris down following the spread of the leaked recordings on social media. The next day, the broadcaster fired their former footy reporter.
Megan Barnard’s statement
Megan Barnard thanked everyone who supported her in her Instagram post and spoke about the process of coming out.
“I have been overwhelmed by the amount of support I have received over the past few days in response to the comments about me in the media.
“To everyone who has reached out, thank you. Fortunately, I am at a place in my life where I am comfortable with who I am and I can handle something deeply personal becoming public. But had this happened as recently as a few years ago, it would not have been the case.
“Coming out is a process and should never be taken out of someone’s hand. Nor should anyone be spoken about in such a degrading manner. I hope my experience can be a catalyst for change in not just the sports industry, but in every industry.”
