The drag lineup has been revealed for the 2nd annual Broken Heel Festival, celebrating the 22nd birthday of the iconic drag film Priscilla Queen of the Desert in the outback mining town of Broken Hill.
Last year’s inaugural Broken Heel festival attracted over 1600 people to go bush over three days, and The Palace Hotel will again be the centre of all the action from September 9 to 11 this year. Organisers have announced a glittering lineup of drag queens who will travelling to the town to perform at the festival.
Raising hell at the Broken Heel Festival will be Yana Alana, the diving and deluded alter ego of award-winning Melbourne Cabaret performer, Sarah Ward. Yana will perform at The Palace on September 10.
Host for the Broken Heel Festival will be Philmah Bocks and Art Simone (pictured, below), individual favourites of the Melbourne glamour drag circuit. Philmah and Art will be presenting Star Queens: The Fierce Awakens, a futuristic jaw-dropper which will visit classic moments from the original Star Wars films, to close the festival on September 11.
Sydney drag star Minnie Cooper (pictured, below), resident queen at Arq Nightclub, will also perform.
Vanity Faire (pictured, below), also making the trip from Sydney, has worked as make up designer and wig supervisor on the Priscilla Queen of the Desert stage musical and will also be attending the festival.
Melbourne performers Jemima Handful, BamBam, KK & Frankie Valentine will also be making the road trip to Broken Hill, where the southern stars and starlets will join Sydney performers Minnie, Vanity, Hannah Conda (pictured, below) and gender-bending Abba cover band BAAB.
Australia’s original “million dollar bus” from the award-winning Priscilla stage show will also be on display exclusively at the Broken Heel Festival, with Melbourne’s DJ Magnus and Mojo Juju aboard to performing DJ sets.
The Broken Heel Festival will be held from Friday September 9 until Sunday September 11 in and around the Palace Hotel in Broken Hill, NSW. Tickets are available online via Moshtix or by phoning The Palace Hotel on (08) 8088 1699 on Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm.
